DISTANCE PROTECTION
Distance protection (ANSI 21) allows rapid and selective fault clearing on transmission lines. This article highlights its operation, zone coordination, and the use of teleprotection to cover the full line. It also addresses modern challenges such as load encroachment and high penetration of Inverter-Based Resources (IBR), and presents engineering solutions to maintain reliability and system security.
